Activities
Make copies of Handout #1: Topic 1, Lesson 2 (Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and Germany). Distribute them to the students.
Take the students to the computer lab to confirm the information on these member nation profiles. Have them update the information if there are inaccuracies.
Use Worksheet #1: Topic 1, Lesson 2 (Member Nation Fact Sheet) to record the updated information. Have the students continue their research, completing a profile sheet on each member nation of the European Union.
Use the profile sheets to initiate a discussion of the following questions:
- How does Germany compare to other countries? What is its relative
strength as a member of the European Union?
- Which countries would you consider to be the strongest members of the European Union? The weakest? Provide specific data for your conclusions.
