Topic 2: Political Institutions in Germany

Step #5: Application
Strategy: Jigsaw
Form students into groups of two. Each group will review one column of Handout #13 (World Press Views on Unification) – and together become “experts” in that column.
Have students meet with other students who are also researching the same column.
The “experts” will present to each other their observations, analysis, conclusions, etc. Each “expert” will enhance their product and then go back to his or her original partner to share findings. The original partner should ask questions and discuss the content.
The role of the teacher is to float between the groups, answering questions, asking questions, redirecting, etc. when needed.
At the conclusion of the jigsaw, a debriefing should occur in which experts from each column share their analysis.
