The types of industries that have been developed in Germany provide for an important economic advantage in comparison with many other nations. To explore this topic, assign students to groups of two or three members and ask each group to identify the location and type of German industry under the first two columns of Worksheet 21 “Industrial Areas”.

Background and graphical information associated with Transparency 32 “Types of Industries” and Handout 15 “Important Industrial Areas and Mineral Resource Locations” should be consulted to complete this task. Then, using U.S. atlases or other media resources, ask the groups to record the names of equivalent industrial sites found in the United States in the third column of the chart.
