- Students should understand that investment in factories, machinery, new technology, and the health, education, and training of people can raise future standards of living.

- Students should be able to distinguish geographic relationships such as population density and spatial distribution patterns.
- Students should be able to create, interpret, use, and synthesize information from various representations of the earth, such as maps, globes, and photographs.
- Students should be able to elaborate mental maps of locales, regions, and the world that demonstrate understanding of relative location, direction, size, and shape
